Many of don't know that Meizu is actually very good with music. Before they became they Meizu we know today, Meizu actually makes good CD and MP3 players. Today we're going to do a quick review the surprisingly good sounding Meizu EP-21.
Meet Meizu EP-21 |
Build Quality / Packaging
Gold plated 3.5 mm jack |
There's nothing spectacular about the build quality of the EP-21. The thickness of the cable is average looking and has a plasticky feel overall. Fortunately, the 3.5 mm male jack used here is gold plated that can give this a better sound. The packaging included is also pretty good as you can use it as a carrying case to protect your earbuds from dust and damages.
Comfort and Isolation
Top view |
Though I would have liked it better if the EP-21 has a foam sleeve, this earbuds is surprisingly comfortable to wear. It also has decent isolation considering an earbuds doesn't isolate very well most of the time.

It's a great sounding earbuds! |
The Meizu EP-21 sounds good! The overall tonality is about to be on par with the AKG K311 and I'm liking it better than the Earpods and the DIY edition of the Yuin PK3. It has that very wide airy headroom that's common with earbuds and open headphones, the instrumental separation and layering of songs is more than decent and has and can extend very well. The bass is tight and fast, mid bass is not its strong point but it's there and the vocals are very clear and has good highs. There's a little touch of harshness with the highs, but it's quite acceptable for most people.
Verdict
If you're not a fan of in ear monitors, but can't spend so much for an earbuds. The EP-21 is a solid offering from Meizu! It delivers great sound quality for the price which can outperform most earbuds in this price category.
As of the moment...
Let's wait for further announcements from Meizu whether they will retail this or not. By the way the people from Meizu is stating that the EP-21 HD is a miles away better than this so I'm very excited to try it out too.
