The VIY: The Spirit of Evil is a hit dark fantasy film that
is based on Nikolai Gogol story “Viy” will be hitting Manila theaters on
October 22, 2014. It is produced by Russian Film Groupand Marins Group. The
stars are Jason Flemyng which is from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)
and Charles Dance who plays as Twin Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones.
“Viy” is the name of the dark and notorious monster that is
responsible for the deaths of many villagers in a sleepy Ukrainian 17th
century village. Viy has the ability to murder and cut through the soul of
anyone that just gaze with his eyes.
Jonathan Green which is a cartographer, is travelling his way to Eastern Europe and chanced to visit the Ukrainian village which is under siege by the monster Viy and he fights the to end the villages misery.
Viy was shot in Prague at the Gatteo, Barrandov and Letnyany studios which is also known and called as the “Europe Hollywood” which is the home to the production of many blockbuster movies such as the “Van Helsing”, “The Brothers Grimm”, “Chronicles of Narnia”, “Casino Royale”, “Hellboy” and “Blade”.
The movie became a certified hit in Russia when it was first released ealier this year. The first weekend take is $17 million which is an all-time record for a Russian movie. VIY is distributed internbationally by Universal Pictures and will be shown in 3D in selected theaters in Metro Manila and and 2D nationwide.
