Philips is a well known company when it comes audio to consumer electronics. However when it comes to the smartphone world, they're less known even in Asia. That status don't mean that they can't produce interesting smartphones, they recently released Philips I966 Aurora in China which is a Quad HD phone / phablet at 5.5 inches.

It doesn't run on Android!
Unlike most Philips smartphones it doesn't sport Android OS. The I966 Aurora runs on Alibaba's Aliyun OS which is a new operating system developed for the Chinese devices only. It is pretty interesting what that OS can do because we only have little information about it.

Specs-wise it can go toe to toe with other high end smartphones in the market. It's powered with a quad core 2.5 GHz of Snapdragon 801 processor and have 3 GB or RAM. That alone states what kind of computing power this device is capable of. Hopefully, there will be a version of this device that runs on Android to be available outside of China soon. :)
